SIXTH GRADE
Oversized shirt.
Head down.
Tangerine locker.
“Lip gloss?” asks Lily.
“I don’t wear makeup.”
Cayden blocks me. “Are we dating?”
“NO!”
“Kay-la, Kay-la,” his friends chant.
My face burns.
In class, I doodle like a kindergartener.
Bunnies. Puppies.
At lunch I share.
Friends empathize.
We create bunny comics.
We play.
